We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Proofreader to join our team. As a Proofreader, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of written materials before they are published or shared with clients. You will review various content types, including reports, articles, marketing materials, and digital content, to identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and style consistency. The ideal candidate will have excellent language skills, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Written Content: Examine text for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors.
  • Correct Formatting Issues: Ensure consistency in headings, fonts, spacing, and other formatting details.
  • Ensure Consistency in Style: Verify that the content adheres to the company’s or client’s style guidelines, such as APA, MLA, or internal branding standards.
  • Fact-Checking: Confirm the accuracy of factual information, including dates, statistics, names, and references.
  • Collaborate with Writers: Provide constructive feedback to writers and content creators to improve clarity and readability.
  • Final Quality Check: Perform a final review of documents before publication or submission to ensure they are error-free and polished.
  • Adaptation for Different Formats: Adjust content to fit different formats such as print, web, or social media platforms.
  • Work on Tight Deadlines: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all proofreading tasks are completed within specified timelines.
  • Track Edits and Changes: Use tools such as Microsoft Word’s track changes feature to highlight and document corrections.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Handle sensitive content with discretion and professionalism.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and style rules.
  • Experience with various style guides (APA, Chicago, etc.).
  • Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to finding errors.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with writers and other team members.

Benefits

Medical Insurance
The coverage begins for the employee the on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents
Cost to the employee to participate in the plan varies by the coverage selection and the number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining agreement
The employee may also elect to opt out of the County's medical insurance if proof of coverage is provided
Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual opt out payment.
